Master Program in International Relations

Master Program in International Relations (MPIR) was established in 2002, initially under the joint management of the Department of International Relations and the Department of Political Science and Government. This establishment aims to examine deeper issues, concepts, and empirical frameworks to understand cross-field linkages in diplomacy and foreign policy. Since 2010, the program has been managed independently under the Department of International Relations.

From time to time, MPIR develops a curriculum that represents the state of the art of the discipline of International Relations. In 2007, MPIR developed two concentrations, namely International Politics (PI) and International Development Cooperation (KPI). In 2009, MPIR offered a new concentration, namely International Peace Studies (SPI). The development of this study focus is the result of cooperation with the United Nations University for Peace (UN-Peace) and serves as part of the internationalization of MPIR.

Then in the 2012/2013 Academic Year, MPIR opened two new special interests, namely Global Humanitarian Diplomacy (GHD), which explores the study of humanitarian issues, and Global Trade Diplomacy (GTD) which focuses on the study of international trade and development. Finally, starting in the 2022/2023 Academic Year, MPIR opens a special interest in Digital Transformation and Competitiveness (DTC) which explores the study of digital transformation.

Now, under Curriculum 2024 (“Kurikulum 2024” or “K-24”), MPIR offers two concentrations. First, the International Relations (MAIR) concentration, which combines the courses previously offered under PI, KPI, SPI, and GHD. Second, the DTC concentration, which combines and develops several courses that were previously offered under the GTD.
