Rumah HI was held on August 16, 2024, in Seminar Timur Fisipol from 08:30 to 15:30. This annual event organized by the Undergraduate International Relations Program UGM aims to provide new students with information and preparation on various important topics, such as curriculum, anti-plagiarism, communication ethics, anti-sexual violence, and mental health.
The event began with a welcome speech from the Head of the Department, Dr. Nur Rachmat Yuliantoro, followed by the singing of the IR UGM anthem led by the Head of the Undergraduate Program, Dr. Randy Wirasta Nandyatama. Rumah HI’s agenda was divided into six sessions. The first session, led by Dr. Randy Wirasta Nandyatama and Arinda Nityasari, MCyberSecAnalysis, as the Head and Secretary of the Undergraduate Program, covered the curriculum and the Merdeka Belajar-Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) guidelines.
The second session focused on anti-plagiarism and was presented by senior students from Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin, Malaysia. They explained how to avoid plagiarism and the importance of maintaining academic integrity in scientific writing.
The third session, led by Yulida Nuraini Santoso, M.Sc, a lecturer from the IR UGM, addressed communication ethics. In this session, she provided examples of messages to lecturers and encouraged students to evaluate which messages were appropriate or inappropriate. This interactive discussion helped participants understand communication ethics with lecturers and administrative staff, considering the language and timing of messages.
After a break, students were divided into groups to meet with their academic advisors. The fourth session facilitated students’ introduction to their academic advisors and provided an opportunity for students to express their expectations or concerns about their studies at IR UGM.
In the fifth session, IR UGM invited the Fisipol Crisis Center to deliver about sexual violence issues. Beginning with a quiz on sexual violence issues, this session explained various forms of sexual violence and how to assist victims with available resources. It was followed by a Q&A and open discussion, giving participants a chance to ask questions about the topic.
The final session was also conducted by the Fisipol Crisis Center and focused on mental health. The agenda started with a quiz on myths and facts related to mental health issues. The session provided in-depth information on maintaining and managing mental health. Through Rumah HI, new students are expected to gain insights that will support their academic and non-academic activities during their studies at IR UGM.
