Student Admission

Admission for international students is centrally organized by the Office of International Affairs Universitas Gadjah Mada (OIA UGM). Candidates are required to apply through the UGM Student Admission System at https://admission.ugm.ac.id/registration/

Selection Stages

Prospective students who are interested to study in the Master Program in International Relations (MPIR) required to apply through the UGM Student Admission System at https://admission.ugm.ac.id/registration/.

First, each candidates must participate in the administrative selection, in which candidates uploads required documents to the admission system.  Second, prospective students who pass the document verification will be invited for a selection interview via email. In this stage, MPIR interviewer team will explore several aspects, including personal motivation, academic knowledge, professional experience (if any), academic and professional vision, as well as Indonesian and English fluency. 

Those who pass the tests may have two options to proceed with the registration:

  1. Continue the registration by completing the UKT (single tuition fee) payment. The info will be delivered through your admission account.
  2. Submit letter to request a deferral (postponing registration for one year). Candidates then required to attend Indonesian language course at the UGM Language Center prior to registration at the following year.

Tuition Fee

Registration fee is  500.000 IDR (roughly equal to 30 USD or 29 Euro).

Those who pass the admission tests may register by completing the single tuition fee of the first semester, with detail as follows:

General Requirement

Kindly visit Office of International Affairs UGM’s website at https://admission.ugm.ac.id/ to check any updates on the admission’s general requirements.

  1. Official Diploma Certificate, issued by your Bachelor program (in English).
  2. Official Academic Transcripts, issued by your previous academic institution (in English).
  3. Colored Scan of Passport, only (a) cover and (b) personal information page are required. 
  4. Colored Passport-Sized Photograph.
  5. Recommendation Letter from academic supervisor or previous academic institution; or supervisor at workplace.
  6. English Proficiency Certificate: IELTS (minimum band score 5.5) or iBT TOEFL (minimum score 61).
  7. Good Health Statement, issued by doctor in any format in English.
  8. Document Authenticity Statement, format can be downloaded at OIA’s website.
  9. Study permit from applicant’s workplace or supervisor (only for those with professional background)
 
Specific Requirements (required by MPIR)
  1. Personal Statement/Motivation Letter could be written in English or Indonesian.
  2. Thesis research outline (maximum of 1.200 words or 4 pages, excluding Reference) consisting of:
    • Your full name and research title, written at the top of the first page.
    • Research background
    • Literature review
    • Research questions
    • Conseptual framework
    • Methodology
    • References
  3. Indonesian Proficiency (Uji Kemahiran Berbahasa Indonesia—UKBI) Certificate. This is optional, but could be an advantage.
