Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) and PT Huawei Tech Investment agreed to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop human resource capacity in digital transformation. The signing, which took place on Tuesday (13/12) in the UGM Leadership Meeting Room, is a formalization of a long-standing collaboration between UGM and PT Huawei since 2013.
Director of Government Affairs of PT Huawei Tech Investment, Yenty Joman, said that the agreement reflects Huawei’s commitment to bridging the gap between industry needs and graduates’ skills, especially in the digital technology sector. This agreement is also in line with PT Huawei’s target of graduating 100,000 digital talents within five years. Currently, as many as 71,000 participants have passed PT Huawei’s various training programs, both in artificial intelligence to cloud computing.
Rector of UGM, Prof. dr. Ova Emilia, M.Med.Ed., Sp.OG (K), Ph.D., welcomed the agreement as she hopes that students will get earlier exposure to the world of work and specific skills or knowledge needed by the industry. This collaboration would also provide a platform for students to do internships and attend training or take part in work practices.
Dean of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences UGM Wawan Mas’udi, S.IP., MPA., Ph.D. added that for the last three years, Fisipol UGM has collaborated with PT Huawei in several courses related to Artificial Intelligence (AI). Not only that, this year the Department of International Relations opened the Master of Arts in Digital Transformation and Competitiveness (MA in DTC). In the future, this cooperation will provide education scholarships for MA in DTC students.
