Course Description

Economic Development in Africa (EDA) is a regional elective course offered to regular undergraduate students in the Department of International Relations. It can also be taken as an interdepartmental and interfaculty course.

EDA rejects racist, orientalist, and patronizing approaches to studying Africa. Therefore, EDA begins by re-examining the term “economic development.” Furthermore, EDA highlights the temporal and spatial variations surrounding economic development in Africa. In understanding and explaining these variations, EDA critically adopts diverse perspectives and ideas, emphasizing Global South solidarity.
