Get to Know Closer at Rumah HI

The Undergraduate Program in International Relations UGM (UPIR UGM) held the ‘Rumah HI’ event on Thursday, August 11, 2022, at the FISIPOL Auditorium. In Rumah HI, the UPIR disseminated academic regulations and several guidelines that apply at IR UGM in a fun and interactive way. After participating in this event, students are expected to be ready to take part in the inaugural lecture session on August 15, 2022.

The event started with games hosted by the Head of the UPIR, Dr. Diah Kusumaningrum, and Dr. Muhammad Rum at 09.00 WIB. After the atmosphere became quite fluid and relaxed, the event continued with the socialization of academic regulations and IR UGM curriculum guided by the Secretary of the UPIR, Treviliana Eka Putri, M.Intsec. Trevi hopes that students can pay close attention to these academic regulations so that they do not experience problems when they are about to graduate from IR UGM.

Next, Rizky Alif Alvian, MIR, and Raras Cahyafitri, M.Sc socialized anti-plagiarism guidelines. Alif and Raras explained that there are many forms of plagiarism. Students have a responsibility to avoid plagiarism by providing appropriate recognition of other people’s theories/ideas/thoughts that they use as a reference in academic writing.

Marwa, M.Sc and Yulida Nuraini Santoso, M.Sc, then invited students to discuss the ethics of good and proper communication with lecturers and academic staff. Students often undervalue communication ethics. However, communication ethics is substantial in building good relationships between students, lecturers, and academic staff. In addition, it is a means to show professionalism and appreciation for the intended person. Mastery of communication ethics will also be helpful later when students enter the working world.

During the lunch session, students had the opportunity to get to know each other better and have relaxed discussions with their respective academic supervisors. The event continued with the screening of ‘The Hunting Ground’ movie, which also acted as an introduction and a bridge to the next session, namely the dissemination of guidelines on anti-sexual violence. Hosted by Ayu Diasti Rahmawati, MA, Ayu explained the meaning and forms of sexual violence. Ayu also introduced the FISIPOL Crisis Center as the unit responsible for following up on reports of cases of sexual violence, providing protection and recovery to survivors and/or witnesses, as well as making efforts to prevent sexual violence within FISIPOL UGM. This session marked the last sessions of the Rumah HI, which was then closed with a group photo session.
