Course Description
Fighting nonviolently is not enough. More than that, we need to ensure its effectiveness. Here, we discuss how to position the appropriate action dilemma, activate effective moral and/or political jiu jitsu, and mobilize others along the spectrum of allies. Nonviolent Studies is an undergraduate course that encourages students to explore how nonviolent action methods can be combined, sequenced, modified, and applied effectively according to the context of the vertical, horizontal, or systemic conflict.
Expected Learning Outcome
- Evaluate the effectiveness of nonviolent resistance
- Design a nonviolent resistance strategy that has a high probability of addressing a contemporary social, political, or economic problem
