Course Description
Europe has had a profound influence on the development of human history. However, contrary to popular belief, Europe is not a single, statistical concept representing a geographic region or a single “civilization.” Europe and Europeanness are highly dynamic and ever-changing concepts, reflected in various conflict-ridden processes that emerge through unity and conflict, conflict and cooperation, establishment and transformation, and inclusion and exclusion. This course is designed to examine European politics as a never-ending process of defining and redefining Europe.
Expected Learning Outcome
- Understand and analyze contemporary issues in Europe
- Understand and analyze the roles and contributions of European Union member states, former Soviet Union member states, and Russia in the developments occurring in Europe
- Explain the character of European development
- Explain the political interactions that determine the character of that development
