Abstract/Notes ABSTRACT This research attempts to explain the legitimacy threat faced by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and how his strategy is in maintaining its legitimacy. Erdogan's own legitimacy has begun to be questioned since the existence of Gezi Park protests, political instability, until the culmination of a coup attempt in 2016. The method used in this research is process tracing or sequent event analysis by clogging up all important events in the 2014-2018 period. The legitimacy crisis as a conceptual framework tries to explain the causes of threats and strategies used by Erdogan in securing its legitimacy. The results of this study indicate that the main problem which poses a major threat to the legitimacy of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is the dualism of national identity, repressive action against the press and opposition, and the accommodation of the Gulenis group's interests. While the strategy carried out by Erdogan was with economic development, military and bureaucratic structuring, and instilling Islamic ideology. The researcher assessed that the strategy was quite effective in temporarily maintaining Erdogan's legitimacy. But on the other hand the strategy creates vulnerable legitimacy.
