Graduate Program in International Relations, Universitas Gadjah Mada, invites graduate students and practitioners in the field of international relations, humanitarianism and political economy to participate in Disaster Management and Humanitarian Action Course. The Number of participants is limited to 25 (twenty-five) persons.

SUBJECT TITLE

Disaster Management and Humanitarian Action

TIME AND LOCATION           

4-7 September 2017 (Session I: 7:30-09:30 am ; Session II: 10:00-12:00 am) at FISIPOL UGM, Room BH 204.

LECTURER

Professor Stefano Tsukamoto (Osaka University, Japan)

Professor Stefano Tsukamoto is currently Professor at the Institute for Academic Initiative (IAI) and Doctoral Program for Multicultural Innovation at Osaka University, Japan. In the past, he worked as a Program Director of ADRA (International NGO) 1990-2004 to take care of Child survival and poverty program in Nepal and Vietnam. In 1997, he served as Country Director of ADRA Japan to take care of the Disaster and Post Conflict situation like Rwanda, Kosovo, East Timor and Afghanistan, and Disaster situations like Kobe, Taiwan, Turkey, earthquake and other disasters in the world. He also was a Country Director of Habitat for Humanity in Japan from 2005-2007. Just before joining Osaka University, Mr. Tsukamoto also served as a Professor of Aoyama Gakuin University, Graduate school of Politics and Economics, Global Expert Program from 2009-2012.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course intended to present the complexity of humanitarian action as well as project cycle management within humanitarian sector. As humanitarian enterprise known as its chaotic coordination, further study on humanitarian enterprise turns to be an essential element. Meanwhile, in order to raise the awareness about humanitarian project, this class would also deliberate the concept of project cycle management. And introduce how to make research and evaluate the situation in the local situation. And communication skill among the multicultural situation and Risk management to protect by ourselves.

HOW TO APPLY

Prospective participants are invited to submit a 300-word statement of purpose in English. The statement of purpose shall explain participant’s motivation in applying for the course and how participant can benefit from their attendance. The statement of purpose shall be e-mailed to Miss Novi Dwi Asrianti at the following address: hi@ugm.ac.id by 27 August 2017 at 17:00 pm at the latest. Selected participants will be notified on 29 August 2017 to confirm their attendance. The participation fee is free.
